"BLACKIE THE PHOTOGRAPHER" svDocumentary Project: This 16mm film documents the mid-1950's history of Naha, the Capital of Okinawa. And I will welcome the modern historians pinpointing the date more exactly...... (Thank you, to YouTube "videographer212" and Okinawa-Spot.com for confirming the "movie banner" dates.) ""ブラッキーSAN" svFILMs"千の顔 プロジェクトEarly Naha was a bee-hive of activity with its markets, main streets, back streets and commercial enterprises. And the Okinawan's always showed "grace and courtesy" when doing business. Their children were my father's favorite photography subjects. Many of my Dad's pictures and images were printed in his books in b&w during the 1950's. Those books are still available from second-hand book dealers today and in some cases, the books can be found in the "public domain". Most of the color 16mm films were first transferred in the 1990's to VHS by my father before he passed away in 1999. But he was not trained in "digital editing" and his film materials were set aside for many years. These 16mm digitized works were recently developed and are being made available to the public without "intense editing". Speaking of Art: John Szarkowski on John Szarkowski

During his tenure as Director at MoMA, John Szarkowski redefined the world's understanding of the art of photography and established himself as one of the giants of 20th Century art history. Over this 30-year posting he made no effort to exhibit or publish his own work. In this lecture, he applies his iconic intellectual rigor and razor wit to the work of the photographer he might know best -- himself. Day of the Dead Parade - Vanessa Potts Photography

Día de los Muertos Grand Procession Presented by Mexic-Arte Museum Austin, TX October 22, 2011 "For 25 years, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) has been Mexic-Arte Museum's annual signature event in the Austin community. Día de los Muertos is an important Latin American tradition, taking place on November 2, when friends and family gather to honor and remember loved ones -- not through mourning, but through celebration! The origins trace back to the Pre-Columbian era, when death was viewed as a transformation. Death was not seen as the final end, but rather as a cycle or continuation of life. This ancient belief evolved to the modern tradition of creating altars to commemorate loved ones, decorated with sugar skulls, flowers, photographs, and favorite foods and memorabilia of the deceased. They share stories and memories, and they sing songs and play music." -- From the Mexic-Arte website, www.mexic-artemuseum.org Photo Credits All photos © 2011 Vanessa Potts www.vanessapotts.com except for DanO's portrait . A look at an artist who has inspired my work in every way possible.

I consider William Eggleston to be the single biggest artistic influence on my life and my craft. In this video I talk about the artist and also mention the documentary about him, William Eggleston In The Real World, that is EXCELLENT and you should watch. He is quite possibly the single most important person in the history of modern American photography. Here is a link to the Wikipedia regarding Eggleston: I created this video and I own all rights to all content in the video.

Bright Ideas Press :: Promo

www.malloryberry.com http www.brightideaspress.com "In 1991, Bob and Maggie Hogan stepped outside the box and began homeschooling their two young sons, JB and Tyler. The first years were exciting and challenging—they watched their boys grow in every possible way. But with precious few resources available for homeschoolers, they had to work hard to find or develop their own curriculum. As they created resources that worked well for their own family--and then friends--Maggie began speaking at homeschool conferences around the country, encouraging others in the journey. Moms swamped her with requests to use what she used. Her handouts grew longer and longer until Bright Ideas Press was born. You might know some of Bright Ideas Press' popular products, like The Mystery of History series, Hands-On Geography, and Illuminations and now WonderMaps. Homeschooling Moms are busy! Bright Ideas gets that. And that's why they promise to publish Christian-oriented curriculum that will fit into your hectic lives, curriculum that is both affordable and easy-to-use with children of different ages at the same time. Curriculum that busy Moms love! The team at Bright Ideas Press prays that their products and resources will not only simplify lives but also inspire, encourage, and enable parents to effectively educate their children."
